Following the nexo Annual Conference 2025, we caught up with Florian Cottereau, Chief Commercial Officer at NEPTING, to discuss why NEPTING joined nexo, how the organization uses nexo standards and his predictions for the payments industry in 2026.
Tell us more about NEPTING
With over 25 years of expertise in payment acceptance, NEPTING’s four founders launched the company a decade ago with a clear conviction: payments will always evolve, driven by continuous innovation. From day one, our mission has been to empower merchants and partners to create new payment experiences quickly and seamlessly through a fully cloud-based payment acceptance platform.
Today, NEPTING delivers best-in-class omnichannel payment experiences thanks to its powerful orchestration layer, connecting all sales channels (POS terminals, mPOS, SoftPOS, eCommerce), payment devices from the six leading global manufacturers, over 300 software vendors, and around twenty French and international acquirers. All solutions are secure and fully compliant with the latest standards, including nexo standards.
Why did you join nexo standards?
We joined nexo standards in 2019 to connect with other leading payment industry experts and contribute to nexo’s objective of creating a simplified, interoperable payments acceptance ecosystem. Becoming a member has enabled us to integrate more quickly with new acquirers and partners, while supporting our international expansion into new regions.
To further reinforce our international growth strategy, we became a nexo Principal Member in 2024, allowing us to fully leverage the support, expertise, and governance structure offered by nexo standards. This new level of membership strengthens our ability to contribute actively to the evolution of the standards while maximizing the benefits for our global development.
How are you implementing nexo protocols at NEPTING?
Over the last 5 years, NEPTING has grown significantly in France, now serving more than 250,000 merchants and supporting over 600,000 payment terminals. We are now entering a new phase of development with a clear focus on global expansion. nexo’s international approach and standardized protocols, particularly the nexo Acquirer protocol, have been instrumental in helping us extend our reach beyond France. Alongside these expansion efforts, we are also proud to have collaborated on the creation and evolution of several standards, such as the Retailer and Acquirer protocols.
What are your hopes for NEPTING and nexo next year?
To support our growth in 2026, we plan to further leverage nexo standards to target tier-one merchants outside France, including Benelux, UK, Germany, Italy and Spain. Entering these markets requires us to connect with a wide range of partners and acquirers, which is where our nexo membership is invaluable. In parallel, we will work to promote nexo standards among new partners and acquirers, helping to grow the nexo community together. We are also supporting the work on the nexo TMS protocol, with the goal of implementing it next year.
What are your predictions for how the payments industry will evolve in 2026?
In 2025, we have seen many new players enter the payments landscape, introducing innovative solutions such as the combination of ISV (Independent Software Vendor) with payments, and this is just the beginning. Next year, nexo will play an even greater role in promoting the need for global interoperability between these new payment solutions. nexo standards will also help ISVs and PSPs to connect faster, simplifying the payment processes as businesses expand into new geographies in 2026. We also expect to see rising demand from merchants for more personalized payment solutions tailored to their specific challenges. Achieving this will require more native connections and greater interoperability, which is why nexo is such a strategic part of our development journey.
